H. Smith to live In Straits Settlements Miss Florence H. I. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Smith, of North Hall, Pittville Circus-road, Cheltenham, was at the Parish Church on Saturday married Mr. Walter Ingham, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ingham, Southport. Their future address will be Penang, Straits Settlements. The Rev. L. G. M. Sheldon, rector of Cheltenham, officiated. The service was choral, and the hymns sung were "O Perfect Love" and “The Voice that breathed o'er Eden”. Mr. Thomas H. Allen, of Penang, Settlements, was best man. The bride, who was given away by her father, was dressed in a beige two-piece suit trimmed with a lynx fur collar and hat and shoes to tone, and carried a bouquet of pink roses, lily of the valley and white heather. She was attended by her sister, Miss R. Smith, who wore a navy and white two-piece suit, and carried lilies of the valley and white heather. Mrs. Edward Smith was dressed in a navy and ecru gown with hat to tone, and carried a bouquet of pink carnations and lilies. Following the ceremony a reception was held the Cadena Corner House, The Promenade, by the bride's parents. Later on Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ingham left for their honeymoon, which is to be spent touring in the south. The bride travelled in a silver grey suit and moleskin fur coat. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a dressing case. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a gold cigarette case. During WW2 when the fighting in Malaya became worse Florence and her young daughter went to Durban, South Africa. Her husband Walter was captured by the Japanese in 1942 and remained a prisoner for the rest of the war. Florence and her daughter Josephine returned to North Hall from Durban in March 1946 to meet up with her released husband.
