Lifestory: Gloucestershire Echo 6 August 1938:  CHELTENHAM WEDDING Miss R. A. P. Smith to Mr. J. W. Poulton

The marriage took place at All Saints' Church, Cheltenham, to-day of Miss Rosena Alice Perrott Smith, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Smith, North Hall, Pittville Circus-road, Cheltenham, and Mr. John Wheeler Poulton, M.A., only son of the late Mr. J. Poulton and of Mrs. Poulton, of St. Leonards-on-Sea. Canon P. M. C. Johnstone conducted the service, during which the hymns "The Voice that breath'd o'er Eden," "O Perfect Love" and "Now thank we all our God" and Psalm 67 were sung. The Bridal March from "Lohengrin" was played on the organ.

The bride, given away by her father, wore an ensemble in a new shade of delicate blue, the jacket being in ruched design. At the neck of the gown she wore a circlet of mauve orchards, and a navy hat with veil and navy accessories completed her outfit. The bride's mother chose a navy two-piece, and the bridegroom's mother wore black with a picture hat to match. Mr. Gordon Bishop was best man. After the ceremony about fifty guests were entertained at a reception held by the bride's parents at the Cadena Cafe.

Later the bride and bridegroom left for a honeymoon, to be spent touring England and the Continent, the bride wearing a printed crepe de chine multicoloured two-piece. The future address will be Banstead, Essex.
