He was born in Co. Down in 1815, the son of Edward Creek, and his wife Elizabeth Basnett (née Hamilton). Creek matriculated at Trinity College, Dublin in 1832, BA 1838, MA 1845. He was ordained Deacon in 1838, and Priest (both Chester) in 1839; in 1838 he was licensed Curate of Preston Patrick, Cumbria. In the same year, while he lived at Old Hall, Westmorland, he married Alice, daughter of Edward Martin, surgeon, of Preston; there were no children of the marriage, and Alice died the following year, in 1839. Creek left Preston Park in 1839, becoming Curate of the Parish Church in Huddersfield by 1841. He then moved to become Curate of Paignton, Devon 1842-3, and in 1842 he married again, to Flora Elizabeth Anne, third daughter of Richard Parrott Hulme Gent., of Maisonette Hall, Devon; they had two sons and five daughters, the first son being born late in 1842 in Florence. Back in England he suffered a serious injury to his head and shoulder when the horse pulling his family phaeton bolted; he did however fully recover. Soon he moved once more, to become Curate of Kingskerswell, Devon 1844-6, and was finally appointed Perpetual Curate of Swanmore, Hampshire in 1847, where he remained for the rest of his life. His father Edward Creek lived in Cheltenham in 1856, and it was there, at St Luke’s Church, that Edward Basnett Creek officiated at the wedding of his sister Kate. A willing traveller, in 1858 the Cheltenham Annuaire recorded the Revd. Creek as living at 13 Pittville Lawn (now 63 Pittville Lawn); this was presumably a short lease, as he remained Vicar of Swanmore until his death, at Southsea, in 1871, at the age of fifty-five. ▶Moved to Pittville from: Swanmore, Hampshire Moved from Pittville to: Swanmore, Hampshire ▶Date of death: 19 March 1871 Place of death: Barrington House, Southsea, Hampshire ▶Date of burial: Place of burial: ▶Notes: ID: 3801 Contributor(s): John Simpson/Alan Munden
