▶Lifestory: Irene sailed for Bombay aboard the Caledonia on 25 September 1915, and a year later she married Captain Philip Brodie of the 1st Seaforth Highlanders (The Duke of Albany's). He was attached to the RAF, and died of pneumonia at Taranto, in Italy, on 18 November 1918, aged 31. After his death Irene returned to her parents' home at Wellington Court, Wellington Square in Pittville.
