Lifestory: Matthew Slinger went to school in Kirkby-Lonsdale, and matriculated at Christ’s College, Cambridge in 1808, BA 1812. He entered holy orders, and was ordained Priest (Salisbury) in 1813 but was not beneficed (and does not appear in the Clergy List for 1841 or later), though in 1812 he was appointed Curate of West Dean with East Grimstead, Hampshire. He was described as of Buckden, Yorkshire. The Revd. Slinger lived at 1 Blenheim Parade (now 3 Evesham Road), Pittville from about 1850 until his death there, aged eighty-eight, in 1875. His wealth at death was sworn at under £5,000, and his widow died the following year, at Bournemouth.
