Peter Inchbald, of Adwick Hall, near Doncaster, and his wife Sarah (née Shipton). He attended St Catherine’s College, Cambridge, BA (senior optime) 1843, MA 1870. After university he became a schoolmaster at the Royal Grammar School in Guildford, and after which he moved in 1846 to become principal resident tutor in Classics and Mathematics at Dalbeth House School, near Glasgow. He was ordained Deacon in 1848, and Priest (both Lincoln) in 1850. [He was perhaps a Curate in Lincoln diocese] In 1851 he lived with his mother at Thurstonland, Yorkshire, a clergyman ‘without cure of souls’. Between 1853 and 1856 he was Second Master at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Crediton, before becoming an Assistant Master at Cheltenham College from 1856 until 1881. From about 1859 until 1862 he and his family lived at 26 Clarence Square, Pittville. By the time of the 1881 census he lived with his wife at Dodbrooke, Devon, again “without cure of souls”.
