He attended Trinity College, Dublin, from 1793, at the age of fifteen, BA 1798, MA 1801. In the same year he was appointed Domestic Chaplain to William Henry, Duke of Clarence (the future William IV), and in 1817 became one of the Chaplains of the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Between 1809 and 1832 he was the Incumbent of Attanagh, Queen’s County (Co. Laois), and was responsible for having the village’s church erected with funds from the Board of First Fruits. He lived at 13 The Promenade in 1843 and at 9 Promenade Terrace in 1845, before moving to Georgina Villa, 18 Wellington Square, in Pittville from around 1847 until 1853.
