Lifestory: George Roberts, only son of the Revd. George Roberts and his wife Henrietta, was educated at Cheltenham College 1847-66, before matriculating at Oriel College, Oxford in 1866, Bible Clerk 1866-72, BA 72. In 1851 he lived in London, and at the time of the 1861 and 1871 censuses in Cheltenham, and lived at 3 Selkirk Parade (now 67 Prestbury Road) between 1871 and 1874. He served as Vicar of Elmstone and lived at Uckington 1879-1921; his mother “Mrs Bayfield Roberts” was the patron of the parish.

He was an Anglo-Catholic writer and historian of the English Church Union; he edited Two letters from King Henry VIII to Tunstall, Bp. of Durham, and from Bp. Tunstall to Cardinal Pole in 1893, and his History of the English Church Union 1859-94 was published in 1895. He subsequently returned to London, and lived at 233 Elgin Avenue, Paddington at the time of his death. His wealth at death was sworn at £71 8s 9d.
