The bride, who was given away by her brother (Mr. H. D. Ellis), wore a princess dress of very rich white satin, almost entirely veiled by beautiful old Honiton lace, and her mother's wedding veil. The bridesmaids were Misses Esther and Norah Milward (nieces of the bride), Miss Violet Tinson, Miss Macduff, and Miss Betty Cade: their dresses were of pale blue silk ninon, made with over tunics trimmed brodes au cordonnet: their hats, of mole crinoline, were trimmed with Catherine Mermet roses and pale blue satin ribbon and they carried shower bouquets of Catherine Mermet roses, and wore gold and turquoise pendants, the gifts of the bridegroom. Mr. Hugh Bayley was best man. Mrs. Disney Ellis wore a dress of black poplin de soie, a coat composed of rare old lace. The service was fully choral, the officiating clergy being Rev. Canon Gardner, assisted by the Rev. Leonard Lyne. After the ceremony a reception was held by Mrs. Disney Ellis. at Apsley-lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Mellin are spending their honeymoon in Switzerland. The bride's travelling costume was an amethyst faced cloth coat and skirt, beautifully braided in its own colour, with touches of black and white. Her leghorn hat was trimmed black velvet and ecru lace and feathers. Mr. and Mrs. Mellin's future home will be at Cairo. Cheltenham Looker-On 11 September 1909: The marquee, which had been erected on the lawn adjacent to the drive, had an interior that reflected much credit on the decorative tastes of Mr. Marfell, the Manager of the Oriental Cafe Company, assisted by floral creations from Pates' Nurseries. The buffet was choicely arranged with delectable dainties, and a very charming effect was secured with cream-coloured baskets filled with beautiful specimens of Madame Abell Chatney roses of a delicate pink shade. These were in keeping with the decorative scheme which was tastefully carried out in pink and green valences looped around the marquee. Suspended from the canvas was a "bell" composed of white flowers looped with white satin ribbon, under which the guests were received. Elegant palms in pots and dainty maidenhair fern and lilies of the valley were introduced and added largely to the effectiveness of the display. The whole of the catering was entrusted to the Oriental Cafe Co., and Mr. G. Pates, of the Imperial Nursery, St. George's Road, supplied the bouquets and floral decorations at the church. ▶Moved to Pittville from: Moved from Pittville to: Cairo, Egypt ▶Date of death: 26 October 1942 Place of death: Church House, Shrewton, Wiltshire ▶Date of burial: Place of burial: ▶Notes: ID: 7106 Contributor(s): David Drinkwater
