The marriage of Miss Mary Rowena Elizabeth Casterton Smelt, second daughter of the Rev. H Smelt, of Willcott, Wilts, and adopted daughter of the Rev. M. A. and Mrs Smelt, of Heath Lodge, Cheltenham, to Mr Charles James Cade, eldest son of Mr T. J. Cade, of Spondon, Derbyshire, took place at All Saints' Church on Thursday, in the presence of a large congregation of friends. The first exhortation was read by the Rev. George L. Gardner, and the remainder of the service by the uncle of the bride, the Rev. M. A. Smelt, M.A. The service was fully choral, the vicar, in the unavoidable absence of Mr A. Von Holst, presiding on the organ. The bride wore white satin Duchesse train, and petticoat of brocaded silk, with wreath and fall. The veil was pinned with a diamond crescent, the gift of the bridegroom. There were only two bridesmaids—the recent death of the bridegroom’s mother necessitating that the ceremony should be conducted as quietly possible—Miss Smelt and Miss Ellen Smelt who wore white mousillon de crepe dresses with gold trimming, and hats to match. Both the bride and bridesmaids carried magnificent bouquets, the presents of the bridegroom to the bride, in addition to the diamond crescent already mentioned, including a diamond star, and to the bridesmaids’ gold horseshoe bangles. The presents were more than hundred in number, and were of very costly description. The dresses were supplied by Mrs Gilmour, of Marlborough house. The happy pair left for Clifton in the afternoon.
