As her father was the Deputy Surgeon-General, she quickly became part of the society scene in the town and along with her mother helped organised many of the big invitation balls at the Town Hall. In early 1913 she took part in Amateur Theatricals at the King’s Hall, North Street in a comedy entitled “A scrap of Paper” in aid of the Eye, Ear, and Throat Free Hospital. She played the part of Mary, a “perky” housemaid.
