In 1851 he was licensed Curate of Holy Trinity, Ashton in Makerfield (also Ashton-le-Willows), Greater Manchester, a post he held until 1856; he served as Curate of Mangotsfield with Downend Chapel-of-Ease, Gloucestershire 1856-9, Curate of St Peter’s, Cheltenham 1860-1, when he lived at 21 Clarence Square, Pittville. He married Eliza Anne White in 1852, and the couple had three sons and one daughter. In 1862 he was appointed Vicar of Hennock-cum-Knighton, Devon, where he remained until his death in 1874.
