Lifestory: Joan Grist wrote to the "Children's Corner" of the Stroud News on 14 May 1909, telling the paper about her dog Sandie, a black and tan terrier, which Nancy and she played with, and which bit "Mamsie's" dress; she also said the family was moving to Cheltenham in three months' time. She wrote to the paper again on 9 July to say her younger sister Betty was a bridesmaid at their cousin's wedding in Cheltenham; that they now had a billy goat and baby silkworms; and that they would now be moving to Cheltenham in two months. She and her sisters went to fancy-dress balls in Cheltenham around 1910 and to dances later.

At the time of her marriage, she lived at 10 Royal Parade, Cheltenham, and Guy Power was a Lieutenant in the Royal Corps of Signals. After her marriage, Joan travelled across the world, depending on her husband's posting: he was in North Russia, Iraq, Hong Kong, with the BEF in France, was wounded at Dunkirk, and went to the Middle East in 1940. At her death, she lived at Ashley House, 118 Trafalgar Road, Cirencester. Estate at death: £216,391.
