It was designed by Mr Prothero, on the lines of the famous Well at Antwerp, by Quentin Matsys; but in this case the whole of the upper part consists of boughs covered with roses and their leaves, worked in hammered iron by Messrs Letheren. At the summit of the canopy stands a figure of the Good Shepherd, surrounded by rays of glory, which for the present is only executed in oak; eventually it is to be cast in copper. This beautiful work adds great dignity to the font. ▶Moved to Pittville from: Moved from Pittville to: Nunney, Somerset ▶Date of death: 29 April 1895 Place of death: Great Malvern, Worcestershire ▶Date of burial: 3 May 1895 Place of burial: Cheltenham Cemetery ▶Notes: ID: 3297 Contributor(s): David Drinkwater
