He attended St Edmund Hall, Oxford, BA 1833, MA 1838, and was ordained Deacon in 1833, and Priest in 1834. From 1833 he served as Curate of Lambourne with Abridge, in Essex. He married Maria Haslope in 1835, and the couple had two children. Prior to his move to Cheltenham, Sharwood was Curate of Titchfield, near Thrapston, Northamptonshire. His residence in Pittville, at 33 Clarence Square, dates from about 1840-3, when he was Minister of St Paul’s Church (the address prepared by his congregation when he left was published in the Cheltenham Journal, as was his reply from Rowley Regis, Staffordshire in 1843, when he went as Incumbent). He was the brother-in-law of Revd. J. E. Riddle, of St Philip’s, Leckhampton. Sharwood apparently left St Paul’s when the Revd Francis Close felt he could no longer underwrite some of the Church’s regular expenses (Wiltshire & Gloucestershire Standard 4 April 1843). From 1845 until 1871 was Vicar and Rural Dean of Walsall, though he was visiting Teignmouth in Devon in 1871 when he died.
